Every day, every month, every year 535 (100 in the Senate and 435 in the house) people out of about 230 Million people who are eligible to vote are deciding how much money you will be taxed and how it will be spent . 535 people in DC out of 230 Million will be deciding whether or not we send our soldiers off to some distant shore to possibly make the ultimate sacrifice. 535 people in DC out of 230 Million are going to decide about guns, immigration, abortion, and ____ fill in the blank.)
The problem is not Republicans or Democrats, Conservatives or Liberals. The problem is not Trump or Biden or Obama or you or me. The real TRUE problem is we are using an 18th century political system and trying to make it work in the early part of the 21st century. Let me say that again: we are using an 18th century political system and trying to make it work in the early 21st Century.
Almost everyone (including me) have said at one time or another that the US is a democracy. This is not correct. We have a Republic form of government (in the Pledge of Allegiance is says “…and to the Republic for which it stands..”) The Republic form of government is where you vote for someone to go off to wherever and hopefully represent you and stand up for your own best interests. This is the type of government we had to have in the latter part of the 18th century because we had not conquered time and space. There is no TECHNOLOGICAL REASON why we cannot have 100% democracy where anyone who wants to can propose legislation, or propose a solution to some civic or public problems concern. There is no TECHNOLOGICAL reason why everyone who wants to can vote…on everything and everything.
In today’s modern world, people get on the phones or their desktops or their laptops. They can Google how many people are eligible to vote (like I did – that is where I got the numbers I gave you earlier). They can book airline tickets. They can read books instead of buying them or going to a library. They can research their family history. They study online and get a college degree. They can find the man or woman of their dreams. When it comes to voting…maybe you can register to vote online but unless you are disabled or out of town if you want to vote you have to go on an inconvenient day, at an inconvenient time, to an inconvenient location, have to wait in an inconvenient line (with a bunch of other people who are being inconvenienced), and go through this 18th century, outdated, outmoded, horse and buggy process just to be able to vote for someone who you really don’t want (I haven’t done a poll, but I will bet most people didn’t actually vote for Hillary – they voted against Trump and most people who voted for Trump absolutely really were voting against Hillary.)
Of course, there will be problems implementing this including but not limited to how to prevent voter fraud. But this is a LOGISTICAL problem and a poor excuse that the people in power who should be doing what the people tell them to do instead telling us what they stand for will use to avoid true change. It is not a reason to not go forward and take this 18th century system and move it into the 21st century.
Is not hard to figure out why the biggest “party” is not Republicans or Democrats but the approximately 100 million in 2016 who did not want to bother voting and did not vote at all.
There is no reason for the powers that be to change any of this…UNLESS we the people tell them we want this whole process to change so we can have 100% Democracy. How do you do that? You don’t need to carry a sign. You don’t need to have a face-to-face with your congressperson or Senator. You do not have to wait until your representative has a Town Hall so you can maybe get to ask them a question or tell them what you want. You don’t have to wait until the next election. It is actually very simple. This method has always been available and it is simple and easy: Simply call or e-mail or contact one or two or all three of your federal representatives tell them you want to change our system to 100% Democracy where anyone who wants to VOLUNTEER can propose and vote on legislation. It only takes a few minutes and better than that – other than the cost of the device you are using to communicate with, it will NOT COST YOU ANY MONEY.
If you are thinking it won’t make any difference, it won’t matter, etc. etc. think about this: If 230 million people actually did invest a few minutes to TELL the people in DC who are supposed to be working for them what to do, they WILL comply. I am urging you to be one of those 230 million.
I am not running for office. I am absolutely asking anyone for money. I am not running a non-profit. Instead of running for office and I asking you to “vote” for my idea/concept instead of voting for me or some other candidate. I don’t need your money and we don’t need money in politics. We just need people to participate.
The journey of 1000 miles begins with a single step.
Thank you.
